Minichamps Museum

This is about die cast scale models, mainly cars.
Minichamps started to develop DTM cars in scale 1/43 twenty years ago, the touring cars were and are still today manufactured in China while the quality assurance team works in Germany (Aachen) at the museum location but just upstairs...
When the final green light (go for production) is given by the Quality assurance team the race can start until the checkers flag is lowered...

Minichamps opened its own museum at its head office in Aachen at the beginning of 2008.
With more than 3.000 models displayed on about 600 square meters, a real "mecca" for model car fans has been created and magnetically attracts visitors from all over the world.
At regular intervals the exhibition is redecorated in order to emphasize the new core topics from the last 20 years of Minichamps.
It is just like with racing or a successful company: what stays is the change...

My first impressions were the following: the museum is huge and offers a wide variety of models from different periods of time, the deco is awesome, best cars having granted the "award of the year" in their categories are separately displayed.
A specific showcase presents the military collection I like so much.
My sole regret is the absence of shop since I intended to purchase old versions of tanks, however it is still possible to order directly recent models from Minichamps website (see hyperlink below).

Some car models are unique because created for the sole purpose of specific events at the request of car companies like Mercedes or BMW.
Scale models of specific car companies like Porsche or Mercedes are gathered in dedicated showcases depicting the evolution of racing cars throughout time per brand.
It is located at only about 50 kilometers from Liège (Belgium) so crossing the German border to visit the museum is really a piece of cake.
The museum is definitely worth the visit, if you like cars you will like it!

Pay attention that the museum is only open on Friday afternoons (but never during public or legal holidays).
